Here is another example of an engaging practice that, from a professional experience, fosters students’ SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT. By school engagement we mean students’ observable participation in school activities, sense of belonging to classmates and teachers, and valuing success in school-related goals.

Target group: children and adolescents

Main subjects involved: language subjects, all the school subjects (multidisciplinary learning)

Description of the practice: StoRe is a research-based approach (Aerila & Kauppinen 2019, 2021) which aims at creating communities of readers and reading for pleasure pedagogy in Finland.

The aims of StoRe: to investigate the readership of teachers and promote teacher networking (Aerila & Kauppinen, 2019; Aerial & Kauppinen, 2021; Kauppinen & Aerila 2022; Lähteelä, Kauppinen & Aerila 2020) and to empower the teachers to develop their reading pedagogies based on their own reading and teaching experiences. Several implementations of promoting children and students to read various texts according ASM model (enhancing amount of texts, choosing suitable reading material, and making reading moments meaningful to the reader).
