Here is another example of an engaging practice that, from a professional experience, fosters students’ SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT. By school engagement we mean students’ observable participation in school activities, sense of belonging to classmates and teachers, and valuing success in school-related goals.

It is implemented by: Teachers and vocational training in sports

It is directed at students aged: 12-16

Target group: Whole school approach

Main subjects involved: Physical Education

ICT involvement:  no

Description of the practice: During the last week of the course, students practice all the sports trained during the course. There are mini-competitions and also a match against the teachers.

Accessible to any student: no, The student with the most misbehavior can be excluded as punishment.

Meaningful participation for every student: yes

Why? Every student takes part at all kind of sports and everyone have to learn how to play, the rules, teamwork, etc.

Support to the practice: yes, All kind of teachers get involved in it and they help students to develope the match/activity

Does this practice promote students observable participation in school related activities? Yes, If they take part in the sport/match

Does the practice promote students sense of belonging to classmates, teachers and school? Yes, Building a team to play a certain sport against other students promote this sense of belonging.

Does the practice promote students giving value to success in school-related goals? Just in specific areas, physical education and transversal skills
