Experiential learning (…)
Experiential learning and functional learning, involving 16-year-olds within a whole School approach, with the purpose of training for work and independent living.
The practice that fosters students’ school engagement is Student commitment to the task: Large task entities are reduced to smaller parts. The student is clearly told what is expected of him, what the goal of the assignment is and when the assignment ends. At the end of the instructions, it is confirmed by asking whether the student can proceed with these instructions. The practice fully promotes students’ observable participation in school-related activities and it sufficiently promotes students’ sense of belonging to classmates, teachers and school. It also highly values success in school-related goals.
