Learn + Teaching Health

Health technician course (…)

Here is another example of an engaging practice that, from a professional experience, fosters students’ SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT. By school engagement we mean students’ observable participation in school activities, sense of belonging to classmates and teachers, and valuing success in school-related goals.

It is implemented by: Teacher

It is directed at students aged: 15-16

Target group: Class-centered

Main subjects involved: Science and technology, Technical subjects of a Health Care Assistant Course

ICT involvement:  Yes

Description of the practice: The activities of this project will be developed by the students of TAS (Health technician course) and supervised by the teachers of the technical subjects(teachers Jorge Estrela, Luísa Silva, Júlia Mendes and Tânia Duarte). The activities may be developed in the classroom (if necessary outside – patio, playground or playing field). The total duration of the activity will not exceed 1 hour and 30 minutes. Being the students the facilitators, I cannot always control variants inherent to the autonomy of the facilitator and the students to which the activities are applied. Besides being the ones who elaborate the research and the materials, they also plan the activities and apply the different dynamics of the project. Assigning different tasks according to the students’ profile, creating pairs of students with more difficulties, with more autonomous students has proved to be efficient.
