Creative Writing

I start by (…)

Here is another example of an engaging practice that, from a professional experience, fosters students’ SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT. By school engagement we mean students’ observable participation in school activities, sense of belonging to classmates and teachers, and valuing success in school-related goals.

It is implemented by: Teachers

It is directed at students aged: 9-11

Target group: Class-centred

Main subjects involved: Languages

ICT involvement:  yes

Description of the practice: Most of my students don´t like to write. They are afraid of making mistakes. I start by suggesting writing nonsense sentences and they love it because it´s fun. Then the difficulty of the texts increases but they get excited to produce them. After a while the students are so motivated that they want to write and to create stories, poems. Listening to and respecting peer productions and improving writing skills has been a great aspect of this work.

Accessible to any student: yes

Meaningful participation for every student: yes

Why? Because all students develop creativity and the ability to write.

Support to the practice: no
